With a background as an archivist, a Feng Shui consultant and an interior designer, Julianna Kocsis first launched her consulting business in 2010. Based on her experience of curating and presenting textile collections, as well as decluttering, organizing and filing to create high-functioning spaces, Julianna became interested in how our environments can affect our energies. She began consulting with people from different walks of life about their home or office environments, in order to create harmonious spaces that would enhance their work or home life.

In trying to establish and grow her business, the problem she found was that there is a lot of misunderstanding or lack of knowledge about Feng Shui, and some negative perceptions, and many people don’t take it very seriously. She wanted to challenge conventional definitions of Feng Shui by combining various energy healing modalities, techniques and analytical tools in her approach. Talila Consulting therefore needed a clear, coherent and strong brand identity that would reflect this unique approach, challenge misconceptions, and become synonymous with solutions that are both insightful and effective, practical and powerful.

Julianna discovered Brand Real: The Startup Entrepreneurs’ Guide to Effective Branding and Building Values-Based Organizations, and found it to be an extremely accessible and helpful step-by-step guide. She realized that she needed a full brand strategy that would position and differentiate Talila Consulting so that people could quickly see and appreciate its value for them. Having never written a brand strategy or complete business plan before, she contacted us for expert help and advice.

Working closely with Julianna, we took the time to fully understand her values, her vision for the business, and her unique approach, as well as carrying out market and competitor analysis in order to define the brand positioning. We created a positioning statement that sets Talila Consulting apart from the competition, and developed compelling supporting messages that speak powerfully to the target audience: individuals and businesses who want to make practical and positive changes in order to thrive in every area of their lives, who are open to advice and guidance about their spaces, and personal development, and who are willing to implement the suggested changes to accomplish the desired results in their personal and professional lives.

In order to challenge people’s preconceptions of Feng Shui, and differentiate Talila Consulting from this image, we needed to ensure that the brand messaging would connect with the target audience on both an emotional and a practical level, so that potential clients would appreciate the value that Talila Consulting represents and be willing to pay the appropriate amount for this personalized service. We achieved this through a delicate balance of messaging styles, using a careful blend of hard and soft, rational and emotional language. This included re-working the Talila Consulting website content to align with the newly defined brand positioning and to reach the identified client-base.

Brand Implementation

Julianna was keen to implement our suggestions to re-define and re-shape her brand, and was especially delighted that she had not had to employ the individual services of a graphic designer, copywriter, etc. to achieve professional results.

She now has a strong and coherent online presence, as well as a comprehensive bank of language and imagery that can be used to reinforce her brand identity and points of difference. Julianna can draw on these for all future communications, marketing and social media posts so that the Talila Consulting brand continues to grow in strength and exposure, around a coherent identity. We also provided a range of effective business card designs that are similarly on-brand, which allow Julianna to network proactively and professionally with her contacts in the industry.
