The book is divided into 27 chapters, with 7 appendixes. At the end of each chapter is accompanied by summary and exercise. The author also invites the guest authors to discuss and advise on certain important issues. The author who has vast experiences living in multiple cultures starts off his book by introducing the importance of understanding different cultures around the world in order to communicate a brand idea effectively across cultural and to stand out in competition. Though the book mainly focuses on branding, other aspects are discussed in the book including latest trend of marketing with the evolution of media, details on building effective branding, the readiness of people and products or services to change with the rapid changes in digital age and a new trend that just gaining momentum in business world referred as Conscious Business, Conscious Leadership or Conscious Capitalism.
I am interested in powering my business, "Conscious Business", "Conscious Leadership", "Conscious Capitalism" and I found this book very helpful.
The book also discusses how to be resilient entrepreneurs and advice on the psychological part if failure persists. Towards the end of the book, in the appendix, the author also provides information such as business planning, marketing planning, and media control.
When I first read the title, I thought the book will discuss only branding products or services and its processes. Yet, the book covers all areas a startup entrepreneur should know. I found the author who has vast experience for 30 years working with different reputable companies such as NBC, helps him wrote a great handbook for startup entrepreneurs. I am interested in powering education, and I found this book very helpful especially when it comes to effective branding.
The book is an easy read. As a non-native English speaker reviewer, I found the author used simple words that are easy to understand the underlying meanings. The author also used charts and diagrams for visual purposes.
This book is recommended to those who are new in the business venture and that includes startup entrepreneurs from the country that used English as their second language.
I will rate this book, Brand real: The Startup Entrepreneurs’ Guide to Effective Branding and Building Values-Based Organizations by Vasken Kalayjian, 3 out of 4 stars.
Though it is a good guidebook for startup entrepreneurs, the usage of too many words such as ‘values’, ‘effective’ really disturbed my reading. After finished reading the branding part, starting from chapter 20, I found it is quite hard for me to pick up the book and slowly finished it. It discusses something not related to branding such as psychological advice if failure persists and crisis management. I also found that each appendix is like reading another chapter.
